I predict he will be placed on paid administrative leave until he hits 20 years and retires with full pension and benefits (with the union standing behind him) and then the whole affair will just fade into history and Holiwell will probably become a self-defense instructor or move to a different state and become a CCW instructor.

19 years in any non military employer makes you vested in benefits you've paid into . police officers pay part of their salary into LEOFF for that benefit, convicted or not, its his money and rightfully his.

that being said, it wont be much benefit to him in prison, especially the sex related charges, those will get him at least double didget sentence....

Yeah, maybe but that is not an absolute principle.

Some retirement programs have a morals clause. Penn State does... now.

I dont know what the exact LEOFF benefits clasuses are. however my understanding is that it's based on employee contributions which the state invests. so I really don't care what the deputy done, 19 years of payments in my eyes means he should get what's his...

now however, if his actions were to result in say, a massive civil judgement against him, I would have no problem with forcing him to make the payments out of that income,,,, but taking it away outright and the state keeping it, yeah I have a problem there....

should my 401(k) be seized if I were charged with a crime? that's the equivelant here....

Yes you don't actually KNOW what you're talking about, nice of you to admit it.

Riddle me this, why don't the gang in blue pay into Social Security like everyone else?

I don't know if they have a morality clause, and I am opposed to having one. It is a defined contribution plan, that I do know.

because it's unnessecary, they provide a larger amount of income to state benefits, and the years working in an SS exempt job do not count for receipt of benefits.

Yeah, so why are they 'exempt' from SS?

They work for the .gov, but then op out of the .gov retirement system?

Things that make you go Hmmmm.

No, I don't lose a minute of sleep over it, you want to look for evil conspiracies where none exist. And you are not well educated on SS either. SS is not a government retirement system, it's an income transfer system to elderly people. Railroad workers were also exempt from SS until the 80s when automation cut the number of employees to so few that they couldn't sustain the RR retirement system....

State and local employees are exempted, not federal employees, fed employees must pay FICA and are enrolled in SS, state and local governments are not the federal government which administers SS. SO the government exempting itself argument you made is false on its face

It's 100% voluntary for everyone.

If you claim otherwise, cite the law. Since there is no law making it mandatory, it has to be voluntary.

The problem as Navy brought out is he shouldn't be making it to 20 years for max benefits. He should immediately be fired now, dragging it out so he can reach the max is continuing the dishonesty.

I would also say there is no "right" to make the next generation pay for your retirement.

Do you know what's awesome? Everyone's panties in a bunch about a cop who's getting paid administrative leave, possibility of reaching 20 YOS and benes, etc.

And all the while you people (yes, you people) are jumping all over this, pointing fingers at the corruptness, etc, you've become the mockery of what you've professed time and time again.

Innocence.

If you don't see the irony in this thread, it's simply amazing when the shoe is on the other foot. Don't bother wasting everyone's time in trying to defend your words. The excuse of "public official," "rotten industry," and "blue line" will only cement the irony.

As hard as it is to do, I think a lot of you should actually stop and think. When you finally arrive at the "oh..." moment, then post.

LOL Got any investments son? Taxed on a W-2 or a 1099?

I am a federal retiree that paid nothing into SS, as I preferred CSRA, knowing that it was/is a good investment, having paid back many times my premium ($35K pays $20K/year). FedGov has taken many bites from my retirement investments. From CSRA I was required to buy into SS to pay for Medicare to avoid YOUR ObamaScare. Thank goodness for my private investments, but their value is being diminshed by inflation of the dollar to make sure there are enough to pay YOUR McJobs wages.

I do not count on social security, I pay for my own healthcare thank you very much. and I have my own retirement, true my pay is not great, but twice what I'd make at McDonalds, and I can choose to work more and make more money any time.

Oh...read the thread again. There are two discussions, one about a cop who will get his day in court. And one about a sheriff who continues to retain a unit that is severely tainted by the acts of one, as far as we know.

Your lack of focus is commendable.

The largest Sheriff's Office in the most urban and populated county in the State of Washington would be stupid to disband the entire SWAT team over one officer being charged. I have faith in Sheriff Urqhart, he's been firing bad people since taking office a year ago, if anyone else on SWAT is crooked, their day in court is coming too....

King County is the primary LE agency for several king county cities, is the primary agency for transit policing, major incidents in the county, etc, King County is home to a third of the state population. along with two of the 4 largest cities in the state. if any one agency needs a SWAT team in this state, that would be it....

Dude, you have NO idea about the RAMPANT steroid abuse by LEO is (it's huge).

Steroids and law enforcement work go hand in hand these days.

How many 'suicide by cop' incidents are really roid rage murders? We'll never know.

I'd post links, but googleityourdamnself. (hint, start with the something like 200-300 LEO/firemen abusers who found Dr Feelgood in New Jersey or NY)

No LEA "needs" a SWAT team.

Place that SWAT team in exile until the full extent of the cancer spread is determined. The good cops on the team can drive a cruiser for a while and then get back to playing GI Joe after the dust settles. What have to be afraid of? They didn't break the law so they should be good with driving a cruiser for a while in pursuit of justice and the truth.

The sheriff...not so much. Doing the right thing is supposed to be hard sometimes.

Here's an "oh...." moment for you.

When a civilian employee of a company is accused of criminal behavior - especially in regards to criminal behavior that involves that company - what happens? Pretty much one of two things. Most likely the company fires the employee and washes their hands of them - or that employee, if retained, still continues to actually work for their continued salary.

When a member of any branch of the US Military is accused of criminal behavior, what happens? They still are required to come to work and earn their paycheck, and if the CO determines that the situation is serious enough they may even be placed on pretrial confinement and they are either in the brig or are required to live in the barracks under supervision during the time that they are not at work.

When a cop gets accused of criminal behavior what happens? They get to sit at home on paid administrative leave, drawing their paychecks that the taxpayers provide and plan their defense strategy with their team of union provided lawyers.

See the "oh...." moment there? If they are so innocent until proven guilty as you claim they should be then make them continue to work to earn their taxpayer provided paychecks.

make them earn pay by confinement to the brig on bread and water.......
