Shooting at Lapeer Pit CANCELLED

CANCELLED.

The 3 of us were invited by a member here to go to private land to shoot instead, and we have opted to do so on account of the fact the pit will be packed to capacity and beyond on a sunday this time of the year.

ETA- I am not sure why this was stickied, as stated, the event has been made private.

What- Target shooting at the Lapeer Pit.
Where- Use google for directions. Here is a map too. http://thegungroup.com/images/chris/thepit.jpg
When- Sunday June 1st at noon.
Confirmed attendees- Michigander, THway, Evil Creamsicle.

For those who have never been to the pit before who might want to come, the pit is a free to use 85 or so yard on State land. All types of guns are allowed, there are no range masters, and no rules besides the 4 rules, calling cease fire and range is hot when all clear to fire, and shooting at only paper, cardboard and clay targets. Anything you need you have to bring, there is nothing there besides a gravel pit. Also for good measure bring a garbage bag or 4, and try to take more garbage than you leave.

Hope to see you there!

One of the last decent public places left to shoot at in MI! Hope you guys have a great time. Hope the day is free of mini-van driving, yell from the window & drive off in a hurry, constipated neighbors biotching because they moved next to a range  Sort or like moving next to Milan drag-way and biotching about the noise & smoke...doh!

Wish you could make it! Or better still that I could sneak away from my new job for long enough to go to Tonto with you and go target shoot at about a thousand yards in whatever direction we deem necessary. Maybe in the winter when the weather is tolerable...

Hey, in the winter even the desert works for all sorts of combat shooting drills, or simple plinking. I am working on getting back to the "mitten" some time soon. I have to do some not so fun maintenance related items and maybe some fun freedom related items too. :)

I found that shooting at 72 degrees in AZ sure beats 30 below in Wis. in Jan. there are some really nice areas to shoot where on can practice at all kinds of different angles.

+1 Instructor. ;)

Yeah - the desert in the winter is a shooters friend. Angle shooting is something most don't get a chance to practice often. Shooting down a straight lane, at a perfectly placed target that is well lit and obeys your every command, is well, better than nothing...but getting things as real as possible is always a huge help - IMHO. YMMV.

Updated with cancellation.

On the topic of types of practice, being able to shoot a rifle in adverse long range conditions is definitely nice, but for those who don't have access to anything else besides public ranges (such as me most of the time) the Pit and accompanying land offer a space to shoot handguns for practice for real world situations, with rapid fire, hip and point shooting, shooting while running, and so on.

The vast majority of ranges in this region are entirely worthless for anything to do with social worker handguns, besides the most basic of teaching someone fundamentals, and convenient testing of a handgun for a skilled handgunner who needs to evaluate the performance and handling characteristics of a pistol as best as can be done in such a place. Gaining and maintaining skills at almost every single range here is not possible. That shameful and disgusting fact is why the Pit is priceless for us.
