looks like it's dead for this year.

Of course, our memphis mayor was panicked about it. "we dont know friend or foe". What a crock. What a lot of politicians (and their constituents) dont realize is how permitting actually disenfranchises lower incomes (which are mostly minorities in memphis). The cost of a permit, time off work etc has a much greater impact on someone working with $7-10 per hour than a middle-high income person.

Well, the bad news is that the bill failed in the Finance Committee. And, since it got a fair and square vote, the sponsor does not intend to invoke Rule 53.

The good news is that SB 1774 (substituted for its companion HB 1480) did pass yesterday. So, if Haslam signs it (don't count on that just yet), then starting July 1 non-permit holders will be able to carry a gun in their car with no permit.

Well, assuming Bill "Big 2A Phoney" Haslam signs it, we did just get unlicensed firearm carry in vehicles. Which I see as actually as big a step since carry was made illegal in the first place.

Of course, this just catches us up to any number of other states in that regard, whether those states allow true open carry or not.
