I would not classify this as a negative encounter, but it certainly wasn't positive... I'm an east-ender (no jokes ) and OC regularly in Holiday Manor Kroger and Starbucks. Everyone there knows me and I regularly talk politics and guns with the folks at 'bucks. I stopped by Shiraz in Holiday Manor this afternoon to get some dinner for me and my wife. I had just returned from a funeral in Frankfort, so I was dressed in suit pants, white button down and a tie - oh, and my G19 on my side. When I walked in, two guys behind the counter were standing several paces from the register and when they saw me come in one started walking toward the register, saw my sidearm and stopped and grabbed his partner. They just stood there looking like they were going to wet themselves - not the reaction I would like to have from folks. I continued toward the register, said "Hi" and started ordering. The guys looked at each other and approached the register to put in my order, asking what sides I wanted, etc. As I was signing my slip, he asked "So, are you a cop or a detective or something?" I responded "No, I'm just a citizen exercising his rights to carry a weapon for my protection and yours." I then handed him a business card I had made up that describes the 2A and Kentucky's constitution, as well as some key KRS lines. He just said "Oh, okay" and everything was pretty normal from there.
I guess the reason I would consider it less than positive was the look of abject fear on this young man's face when he saw me carrying. Hopefully, he learned a little something today and that LEOs and bad guys aren't the only people who carry sidearms.
