Had a very good day today. Went to Tokyo steakhouse to get some sauce I forgot lastnight when we eat there lastnight. I was of both times. Today though one of the waitresses said is that a gun I've never seen someone carry one. Sparked a good conversation until she asked to hold it. I told her no way that is illeagle to pull out a firearm just to show it. Later in the day took all 4of my kids to quick pick in auburn. Most of the people there were a little older and I was met with disbelieve that I was carrying. Even the workers were a little sketchy. After a while everything seemed ok then a couple came up asking questions. That sparked a great conversation about guns. He owns just doesn't carry. I told him my family safety it first as should be his. He agreed. Told him
About ocdo and we may see another member hopefully.

I have eaten several times at the Auburn Quick Pik, by myself, with my daughter and with Deros. Never had an issue.

We have had meets at the Fife location and have spoken with the owner who supports our cause.

The wife and I meet at the Auburn Pick Quick every other friday or so for lunch. I've never had any issues with the exeption of one guy eyeballin' me while I was waiting for my order. I smiled at him and he visibly relaxed.
Really great food. Cheaper than fast food. 5 Guys Fries in Puyallup is good too but they are always packed and it's much more expensive. IMHO Pick Quick is better anyways.

A few days ago I was at the Albertsons on A street in Auburn. On my way in a guy was walking out and saw my 1911.
"They let you walk around like that?"
I said, "They don't let me do anything, Sir. It's a Right. Most States are OC."
"Not Washington!"
I replied, "Yes, Sir it is. You'd be surprised at how many people do it." I refered him to the site.
He shrugged and nodded, "Well, alright then. Keep on keepin' on."
"You too, Sir."

The other day I took the dogs to the vet and discovered one of the vet techs there has her CPL and is Pro OC. So is her husband. She actually was quite knowledgable about the law. We had a great conversation.

Gonna be heading down to South Hill today to go to Dick's. I'm sure it will be uneventful.

Lakewood Again, I do live and work here.

So I went to grab a fountain drink at 7-11, standing at the counter, nice slightly older lady walks up beside me looks down, back up and smiles. Didn't look concerned or say anything. Thats the way it should always be.

Walked into Keybank to get a counter check. Young teller lady smiles and says come on up. I pull out my debit card to swipe as I state "I just need a counter check". She says ok no problem. Then I here a guys voice saying "Sir...Sir..." as he is walking up to me with his rolling briefcase around to my strong side. So I turn to face him. He was trying to be very quiet, even though it is all bank employees in the bank. "You can't carry Guns in the bank." I said "really, I've been doing it for over a year... every week." Thinking maybe they changed policy. I said "when did they change the policy?". He said that they have never aloud guns in a bank. I informed him that Keybanks policy falls inline with state law. To which he said "Yes and you can't walk around with a gun unless you are in law enforcement, or FBI." I said I do not know what laws you have read or who told you such a thing, but in Washinigton you can walk around with a gun showing without any type of need, job purpose, permit. It is Open Carry. Then he asked for my information, and started to give me his card so we can follow up on policy. I told him I have already checked your policy... Then a lady on the other side of the lobby says his name and gives him the leave him alone staredown, and says I have called and you need to just let him go on about his business. Then he says sorry I just got here from Florida, we don't allow it in Florida. I enformed him that Florida is in the Minority.

I thought about telling him to read up on traffic laws because some of those may be different to, but I declined...

another though in general---

I don't understand why some people are so affraid of a gun they can see. They must only ever think about guns when they see one. I personally go through life thinking that every person I encounter has a gun on them and act accordingly. My GF thinks that this is no way to go through life. I assure her that it becomes second nature. I am much more aware of my surroundings because of it. Of course I have less time to daydream and walk like a zombie sending text message after text message not even realizing where I am walking... I think in general people that carry are much more civil, aware, sympathetic and thoughtful, even if just for the reason that we are always on guard to a degree.

I just don't understand why transplants from other states just assume that the laws here MUST be the same as where they came from. Just stupid!

Well there are alot of transplants here in this area. Maybe thats why there is so much confusion. But to me If I saw someone J-walking or doing something random that I thought was illegal instead of confronting them I might say "you know... where I'm from thats against the law, it's ok here though? Or Just take a note and ask. I might of asked another person that worked at the branch and said that guy has a gun is that ok here? And then acted accordingly.

thats why they have that saying about assuming things...

Very sad day for me today. My dad passed away sometime late to early morning. He was 58 and couldn't take care of himself. Anyways I was getting ready to take kids to park this morning and had strapped my glock to my side. Went to check on my dad to see how he was(he's been sick last 2days) and found him passed away. I call 911 to report it and had the paramedics arrive shortly after still ocing and the auburn police showed up still oc. We had talked for a while and he did notice my gun and didnt say anything about it. Several hours had passed and no words were said. Great but sad day for me.

I am sorry for your loss, that is a terrible thing to have to go through. As to the transplant issue, some of the worst people for assuming about firearms carry are my fellow military folks. On several occasions I have actually had one or more try to argue with me in public about the legality of open carry. It's usually the young guys, but once it was a 1SGT who almost immediately tried to bring rank into the issue. It's really surprising to think that the military wouldn't support it, but they very much don't for the most part.

Damonk: Mainly they think on post rules apply off post. I once went to an off post event with an "empty" holster to let them know how I feel. Since I was considered "on duty" I went with the empty holster. Till I retired last year I got a few more questions for every four day safety briefing concerning my gun ownership. Kind of annoying that a 49 year old 21 year E-7 veteran would be treated like an eighteen year old private. Surprised I didn't get any comments at the hospital, and commissary with my empty holster today. I'm amazed at the lack of knowledge among our military brethren about gun possession/use/carry laws. I have an adobe pdf file from March 2010 that says if you live off post you do not have to register your gun on post. I believe that has changed again. Rant complete.

Total ignorance of rights was observed while I was in.

Many even told me they would help disarm Americans if a law was passed disarming us.

Thanks much for the support. Been a tough couple days. Yesterday my girlfriend and I took the kids to Seattle center and let them play around the fountain. I was oc of course and had several looks but nothing happend. Then we headed to the skate park there and sat around for a few min as my kid tried to hang w the big boys. Had one pleasant conversation w a older kid from California. He didn't understand how we can get away w open carry. I explained wa law best I could and directed him
Here as well as washingtongunrights.com All in all better day.

Thats scary, I know alot of military guys. Some are already set to NOT follow those orders. We rent moving trucks at my shop as well, so we have alot of military guys through the shop everyday being located so close to base. The older higher up guys are trying to get out because they don't like the direction the military is going. Alot of young guys, wet behind the ears that sign up, because they got their 18 year old GF pregnant and it's the only way they can support it. Which I applad for finding a way to support your family. But that is the wrong reason to join the military. I believe those people will gladly line up and do as told. :(

Yes and no. What changed is that it is now against Federal Law for any service/base/installation commander to limit or restrict the rights of servicemembers in regards to the lawful ownership, possession, use, and carry of firearms, off post. It's still a big no-no on base, but at least it's a step in the right direction. Also makes it unlawful to require registration of said legally posessed firearms unless they are brought on-base, and directs the destruction of any such records already maintainted. (Hence why Range 15 at JBLM is a horrible, horrible idea... unless you don't mind registering all your weapons with the PMO... which is no-go as far as I'm concerned.)

CITE: The Public Law version is not yet online, but here's a link to the 2011 National Defense Authorization Act as introduced, which became Pub. L. 111-383. Section 1062 (on PDF pages 253-54) provides:

"SEC. 1062. PROHIBITION ON INFRINGING ON THE INDIVIDUAL RIGHT TO LAWFULLY ACQUIRE, POSSESS, OWN, CARRY, AND OTHERWISE USE PRIVATELY OWNED FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, AND OTHER WEAPONS.

Prayers for you and your family. My dad passed away last November with me at his side. He was very difficult to take care of at the end and I was at a loss of what to do. My son helped out tremendously and I saw the man in him at that point. I gave him my dads 1911 Colt Gov't Model.

We deal with transplants in Id. also. Mostly the Ca. ones are the most difficult to deal with.

I had a few friends take me to range 15 last year. Seemed cool, close to home. Then I was on a boarda few weeks back, I think northwestfirearms and I saw a thread about how all guns used at range 15 have to be registered on base. I'm not sure if that was a rule before or if it's newer. But sadly I will never be going there again.

My condolences to you and your family. I lost my father 10 years ago and my mother last year, both were under 60 when they passed... The pain goes away with time but luckily the good memories never go away.

Well, today was pretty interesting. We headed over to Paradise Bowl in Parkland for a kids birthday party. For the most part it was pretty fun. About an hour and half passed until the owner stopped by.

Owner: Are you the guy with the gun?
Me: Yes (not many others OCing there today)
Owner: Do you have a license for that?
Me: I don't need one to OC.
Owner: I'm going to have to see it.
Me: Why do you want to see my CPL
Owner: It's either that or you can take your gun to your car.
(after some protest, I quickly pulled it out and flashed him)
Owner: I didn't see it long enough.
Me: Whatever. (pulled it again and held it in front of him)
Owner: Can I hold it.
Me: No, you are not law enforcement.
Owner: You need to let me hold it and there's no photo.
Me: No (almost like mind had changed or something)
Owner: You have to leave the gun in the car because you are not LE and kids are around.
(I walked out side with the owner slightly in tow)
One the the cashiers thanked the owner as I walked out. She never said anything to me that entire 1.5 hours. I let my wife and kids stay to keep from disrespecting the birthday girl and her family. I went and stayed the rest of the time in our car in the parking lot.
My wife called later and said that the owner said that it was against the law for me to have gun there because alcohol was being served. BS, that area was not 21 and over area. In fact, there was a bar there with the correct posting for being 21 and over.

Edit add: We didn't pay for any of the lane or equipment, so, no refund was required.

On a positive note, while waiting for my wife to pick up some starbucks, I saw a DHS police SUV turning left on to Canyon between Starbucks and Rite aid while OCing. I'll post some pics later.

I understand not wanting to upset the Bday girl/family, but I think I would have refused showing him the CPL since you were OCing and he was not any type of authority to demand squat. This guy needs a lot of education. I would have asked for a refund for my portion, or asked if he would be personally responsible for the security of my gun and my family if I did choose to leave it in the car. Rant complete.
