Rochester Festival on the Hills

Went to the Rochester Festival on the Hills event on Wednesday evening. Arrived around 6:10pm with my girlfriend, her son and my daughter (both 6). Had a great time. OC'ed my Glock 17 all evening. Took the kids to play in all the bounce houses for about an hour. No comments, no kids running and screaming for cover. Had a great time. Maybe 50 LEO's in attendance. Only contact I had about OC was an Oakland County Sheriff Deputy that said, "Yeah, open carry!" and gave me a salute/wave. That was it. A great event to attend. The fireworks were great! Considering there were 25,000+ people attending I was surprised I did not get any other comments. Maybe this is good news that people are getting used to people protecting themselves by OC'ing?

Hello all! My name is Matt and I am from the Commerce area. Still waiting for my CPL to get here so I decided that I would open carry until then. I've been doing a lot of reading and studying in regards to the laws and statutes that need to be known before OC'ing.
-snip-
Welcome! And Kudos for studying the laws!

One thing I'd like to mention as a caution....

When folks take their guns out of the trunk or car to holster... or to unholster... there is often a tendency to try to hide the uncasing/loading or unloading/casing the gun so as not to alarm folks but........... without a CPL it is illegal to handle the gun INSIDE the trunk (gun case inside the trunk and holding the gun inside the trunk while loading) or INSIDE the car (gun case inside the car on the front seat and holding the gun inside the car while loading) because the gun cannot be "possessed" within the confines of the car/trunk outside of the case!

To have a gun inside a vehicle without a CPL it MUST be inside a case.

The safe way (legally) is to take the case entirely out of the car and do the removing from the case and loading ... and unloading/returning to the case completely outside the car. Also care should be taken to not lean back inside the car and let the now holstered gun break that line from outside/inside the car while reaching for something you left in there.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Yes I made sure to take the case out and place it on my trunk lid while unlocking and holstering.

OCed at Red Robin in Dearborn yesterday evening with my date; while dining I saw five guys amble inside all wearing PNC Bank t-shirts and OCing. It felt great to know I had a copious amount of back-up if anything went wrong in there. The staff was great and never so much as batted an eye.

What an odd site. It is unusual enough to see 5 people together that are OCing but all wearing matching shirts? Bank OC team?

OT: I OC'd some places, and only had 1 comment which I haven't heard in some time: 'Are you a cop?'. It was at a small gas station in St Clair Shores and she told me her sister works there and was recently robbed but her boss won't let her carry even though she has a CPL. :(

Oc'd at the Mt. Clemens festival today passed about 30 LEOs and not a word said however I got alot of looks from several parents and a few kids as me and the wife made our way through the crowds. I thought I had seen another Ocer but it may have been a figment of my imagination or a heat induce dillusion. Other then that OC'd all week and other then the guy who was insisting my Sig looked like his friend's Glock (Glock never made a pistol with an exposed hammer did they? all DAOs correct?) nothing unusual.

OC`d at Brians restaurant here in Lapeer to pick up a carry out order for dinner. Opened the door for an older couple as a courtesy and then the owner waited me. Not a word from anyone. This was a new place for me to OC and I wasn`t sure what to expect.

Took Yooperlady to KFC in Clio for lunch. No one much cared about my sidearm. But the KFC folks are very open carry friendly!

Glocks are SAO, i Dont know about when they first came out but all the ones I've seen are striker fired, single action.

I believe all/most striker fired guns (glocks at least) are considered Double-Action Only. Single-Action means you have to 'cock' the hammer/striker manually between each shot.

The Glock is technically neither a true Single-Action nor a Double-Action...Glock calls it "Safe Action". In essence, it is "close" to a Double Action.

Like a single-action, chambering a round sets the striker (firing pin) mechanism. However, like a double-action, the firing pin is pulled back farther by pulling the trigger.
The idea was to have a shorter and lighter trigger pull than a DA gun but not to have a fully cocked striker ready to fall like a SA gun. Without this, the Glock would require a manual safety like SA guns

SAO?, I posted before finishing my morning coffee, hehe

I did find this but I don't think it's been released yet

A glock 1911 .45 clone with a hammer.

EDIT:

"Safe Action" ok, I stand corrected, I've always called them DAOs.

I was thinking single action like you cock the hammer (striker) when you rack the slide. When I think of DAO I think of Smith Bodyguard 380 and the like.
