Would you bring a knife to a gun fight?

i have seen some videos somewhere i forget, looked to be police training but it showed pretty much the same thing, a man with a knife could rush the officer at around 20 feet before the cop could un holster is gun. kinda suprising. think the purpose was to show why the officer needed his weapon drawn in situations like that.

I always carry a knife, and I carry a large one(7 inch blade) when I cannot carry a gun. Plus I carry a cane, not so I can bring a knife, or cane to a gunfight but to possibly deter an attack in the first place. Actually a person could carry a medium folder in their in hand closed in most states without violating any laws. If the folder has been tuned, with a flick of the wrist it can be used to defensively disarm a assailant with a gun at close range. Cutting the tendons on the gun hand results in the instant drop of a gun. Even smacking with a cane will cause the gun to drop from the hand, without the booger finger pulling the trigger. I have had my hand struck holding a mock gun by an instructor on the protruding bone on the wrist. The gun dropped from my hand and I was unable to use any of my fingers, and this was with a padded baton. Now mind you I was young at the time and my nerves less dull than they are now.

Carry a lance ! even better

Why? Maybe you are joking, then maybe not. A cane is a tool used to assist in walking, you have a problem with the handicapped, or are you jesting? A knife is a arm, just like a gun and can be carried comfortably for self defense, just like a handgun. So you would be in favor of us just being victims, and stumbling if we have mobility issues and want to have a little fun at our expense?

Well, for one, I don't need to ratchet back the slide on my pistol, then disengage the safety prior to taking aim, and firing; especially at someone who would be charging me. As that one dude kept doing in the tests, implying that people OC with a non-chambered round, and on safe. Unlike him, I OC my hi-point cocked, locked, and ready to rock, safety off when I have the thumb safety belt snapped, safety on when its un-snapped.

Also, I now want to OC a two-handed bastard sword along with my Pistol. And totally do the aussie accent if ever pitted in a knife fight... "Thats not a knife... *draws sword* THIS is a knife... B*tch."

I thought the test was not well thought out. I think he was using a spring airsoft which only works by racking the slide before each shot. I don't know if you have ever swung a two handed sword, or a lance, but both would probably not be a good choice for self defense. Both are IMO offensive weapons. I have seen a few people use 5 or 6 ft walking sticks, and I personally consider them a hassle. My cane is 36 inches the same size as riot baton. But I can hang it on my chair at a table, a little hard to do with a lance or a two handed sword. I don't know about the rest of you, but I would tend to respect someone with either a open carried knife or a cane, both as a citizen and someone who wishes to take responsibility for their own safety. I would have never thought of OCers as anti self defense by any reasonable means. But I get surprised everyday.

If you have your CCDW, you can legally carry a cane sword in Kentucky.

They don't allow a sword cane here in NC, a permit only allows concealing a handgun. Otherwise I would use a sword cane, they also do not allow a weighted cane here, but hickory or dog wood does not need any added weight.

You should come to Kentucky if you want freedom of arms. Our concealed deadly weapon license allows us to carry ANY concealed deadly weapon and no permit need to openly carry a deadly weapon. Some states regulate magazine capacity or firearm features (threaded barrels, accessory rails) but Kentucky is a very free state.

I do not think there is a Kentucky statute regulating weighted canes, I don't understand that law much. Can you explain to me why they think an aluminum can weighted on the end is any more deadly than a solid wooden cane? What if you have/want a cane with a decremental foot, is that allowed?

I don't know the reason for it, just that it is. I like it here so that is not enough to get me to move. Besides it gets cold in Kentucky.

I now carry an esee 3 fixed blade knife on my right boot. Comfortable enough I can forget its there but close enough I can grab it pretty quickly.
