Couple of places in the Wausau area that have "the sign" posted:

Polito's Pizza (downtown Wausau). No biggie. Their pizza sucks anyways.
Vino Latte (Grand Ave. Wausau). Coffee/Wine shop
Harbor Freight (Schofield/Rothschild - Shopko Plaza). Stopped in today to look for some stuff. Noticed the sign, pulled out a card and handed it to a check-out person and asked her to give it to her manager. Then I promptly walked out and went to Fleet Farm.

That is Harbor Freight's corp policy. Last I heard, the NRA dropped them from advertising in their magazines.

I needed to get passport photo's taken. Went to the door and was stopped by the sign that said Only LEO are permited to carry GUN's here. Put mine back. When I asked about the policy, the person behind the desk said IT"S CORPORATE POLICY, in a very loud voice and a condesending tone. I asked to see a copy of the policy and was told to call madison for a copy. She started banging drawers and such in a huff. Not very good service.

I see they're not on the list, so a call to Madison is in order.

Does anybody know if other AAA's in WI are posted?

JJC

Got a response back from the office manager in La Crosse (Madison refered it back to her "Cheryl").
Cheryl told me it's a corporate policy for the AAA's in the 7 state group they belong to. They met before November 1st last year and decided it was safer for all involved if they posted company wide. (She feels the signs will keep them safe.)
When I mentioned that there are over 100k licensed carriers in WI she said they are all welcome if they leave their weapons in their vehicles. (not a polictical statement)
I asked what precautions she takes in her office and she said she will call LEO right away if any threat appears in the office.
She also asked that I NOT mention their anti 2nd ammendment stand on this forum.

From our discussion I get the feeling that she's of a mind set that the LEO's are out there to protect us.

It would be nice if we could get 100000 calls to Cheryls number. 608-783-7412.

Please Change the status to include corporate stupidity.

I will be calling later. And lol, she doesn't think we'd let other people know? Why would I spend money with them if they are going to piss on the Constitution?

I have to admit my first thought about AAA was basically "ahh......who in the hell uses AAA anymore"?! While I obviously agree it's asinine to not allow CCW in their "hallowed offices", I think they're already dying a slow, painful death. I don't even know where the local AAA office is here in the Wausau area. If there is one, I could go and check 'em out. Speaking of passport photos, I had to get mine the other day. Did it at the post office, where I obviously can't C/C anyways. On a side note, one of these days I'll have to take a photo of the main entrance to the Marathon County Public Library here in Wausau. Between the (what seem to be) 10 "NO SMOKING" and "NO WEAPONS" signs on their glass doors, it's actually difficult to see inside the damn place. You know........the old "one sign isn't enough......we have to post multiple ones on each door" policy. Makes me puke.....

I'd mention this harassment to the store manager or owner.
Me having the sense of impishness that I do, I'd also be tempted to ping-pong between a couple departments several times, noting when I move & when the PA announcement is made each time.

I mentioned harrassment to a manager, who quickly apologized and attempted to assure me it wasn't about me, as I continued my business, the announcements continued. I've decided to ignore them. A few visits ago, they stopped. I think they realized that I am married to a woman who has worked for them for almost 8 years and is a great example to other employees.

Openly carried at Wal-Mart every time since then, passed a few on-duty officers, got sized up, but other than that, no response. Waited an hour and a half for an oil change and an employee told me he was "proud" of me. I thanked him and told him an unexercised right is a lost right. It started a conversation among the other customers and a few others have said they're going to be open carrying soon. I hope so. :)

I called and was referred to another exec (supposably) and told them as a long time customer, I would have to take my money somewhere else if my consitutional rights were not observed. I was basically told to hit the road. I'm going to encourage my parents to take their business elsewhere, although they are of the type that think guns are barbaric unless its their guns at issue. Is this a common phenomona?

Noticed that Family Fresh is posted on another advocacy site and carried at the Hudson WI and New Richmond WI locations with no problems. People noticed and pointed but did not say anything. Also, I see that Kmart is listed here. I carried at the Menomonie, WI location, wandered for about an hour with the kids and although several employees pointed at my holster, nobody approached me or even said anything besides "can I help you find something?" Denny's in Hudson WI is completely friendly. Saw somebody else OC'in a week ago at my Wal Mart. :)

THE TIMELINE CAFE-------DOCS HARLEY DAVIDSON is now open for business. Last winter I stop in to grab a bite to eat. It was posted and I was hungry so we went down the road to eat and I reported it on this forum. I have checked a few times since and yesterday the sign was down. I talked to Steve (doc) and thanked him. He said that in the beginning the laws were so muddled that he wasn't sure what to do so he posted.
His desicion to take the sign down probably had nothing to do with my friends and myself calling every once in a while to make reservations for a fairly large party, 8-12 people, and then canceling when we are told that we could not carry in his establishment.
Please remove Docs from the list of unfriendlies. Great food, nice place, good prices.

Done! Good to hear he no longer infringes upon the law abiding to defend themselves.

Market Street Diner and Bakery in Sun Prairie posted about 2 weeks ago. driphahn@foodfightinc.com

They were held up at gun point on the 15th less than 2 blocks from the police station.

We need to make sure the word gets out to the armed robber, that if he returns, he will also be guilty of a Class B forfeiture (not to exceed $1,000). That should stop him, don't you think!
