I witnessed the before and after of an OC encounter recently at work (a hospital)

I work at a hospital and my office gives me full view of the entrance to the ER, so between LEOs, department of corrections officers and hospital security, I see plenty of armed people coming and going all the time. A couple days ago I see this guy park in the ER lot and walk inside open carrying a glock in a serpa. It should be noted that every hospital in this area, this one included, is posted no weapons. The exceptions are of course anyone that carries in their line of duty like the individuals I just mentioned. The individual I witnessed was wearing a shirt that said "Loomis" on it, as in Loomis Armored. I thought nothing of it and kept on working.

The next thing I know I see this guy walking out the ER door with his glock in his hand, emptied and the slide locked back. He gets about halfway to his vehicle and starts to reload it. Apparently having reloaded and locked it in his vehicle, I then see him walk back inside with an empty holster.

All sorts of absurdity was observed that day :banghead:

I work for a hospital as well and, like you state, it is conspicuously posted. At my orientation I was told that working at a hospital was as dangerous as working the night shift at a gas station. I wanted to raise my hand and ask, "Why then do you deprive legally armed individuals of their right to self-defense?" but thought better of it. Luckily I will be graduated in a year and will have the luxury of choosing who I will and will not work for.

Not that I would be the one to test this. But, I have noticed that the entrance to Johnson City Medical Center (at least, one of the entrances) has the gunbuster sign with the words: "NO CONCEALED WEAPONS ALLOWED" (emphasis added). I've always wondered if someone open carrying could be arrested for carrying past such a sign. On the one hand, it does contain the gunbuster sign. But, on the other hand, I've wondered if that person could point to the sign and say: "hey, it says no CONCEALED weapons; I don't see any concealed weapons here..."

I noticed that as well, but the sign at the ER doesn't have words at all. Just a revolver with a slash through it.

I really don't think they'd have you arrested, I think they'd just tell you to take it to your car or escort you outside depending on the circumstances. The only time security calls the police is there's been an assault or an accident in the parking lot. Whether or not you could be arrested is another matter.

If you want to test that one out go right ahead lol ;)
