CC Course

Shortly I will finish developing the curriculum for a CC course I plan to offer starting in the Madison area and gradually picking up venues in outlying areas. The course will include a comprehensive review of WI's new CC law, self-defense and use of force law, post-shooting considerations and expectations, choosing or evaluating a firearm and other equipment for defensive use, particularly when concealed. Day-to-day considerations such as clothing, using a public bathroom, and many other details it's better to think about before you strap on a gun. A segment on firearms safety will be included.

Finally, I'm including information on real use of guns versus myths and what you see on TV. Plus an introduction to the gun handling skills and tactics you will want to develop to become more effective with a gun as a defensive tool.

The particular design of the course is geared towards those with no or limited CC experience, or experience carrying a gun for defense and security.

I have had several venues in and around Madison express interest in hosting these courses. I will select them based upon size and availability. Suggestions for venues outside of Madison are welcome! I'm willing to travel one or two counties out, or even beyond if there are enough people interested in a particular area.

Cost of the course is not settled, but will be in the $75-100 range, leaning towards the low end of that range right now, but I need to finalize cost of materials, etc.

To be clear: This course is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the NRA or WCI.

I offer a 10% discount to veterans, senior citizens 60+, and to anyone who has a current restraining or no-contact order against another individual. The discount is also given to people with a disability which (in my judgment) has a significant impact on their ability to provide for their own defense.

Special to WCI members only: I plan to reserve a few seats (2 or 3) depending upon class and venue size to provide the course for FREE to WCI members who joined WCI prior to July 2011 on a first-come, first-served basis. If interested, give your WCI membership number when you contact us. You will be put on a separate list and notified as courses are scheduled. This is just a personal way of thanking those who have supported WCI and helped make it an effective organization for our rights. This course is not to be confused with any WCI training which may be under development.

Direct questions or get on the notification list by contacting personalguntrainer@gmail.com or calling 608-698-9900.

Auric, I appreciate you stepping up to do this! Just one question. Will your training be acceptable to the WI DOJ for permit issue? In other words, are you an instructor that meets the criteria?

I am thinking about getting my wife signed up. She has never even touched a gun. Would this be a good class for her?

Thanks!

Under "training requirements" the bill says "A firearms safety or training course that is conducted by a firearms instructor who is certified by a national or state organization that certifies firearms instructors..."

The NRA is a a national organization that certifies firearms instructors.

The NRA certified me as a Pistol Instructor, Personal Protection in the Home Instructor, and Firearms Safety Instructor. Plus I'm certified as a Range Safety Officer. So, yeah, I ought to meet those requirements.

As for your wife, if she plans to carry, yes I think it would be a good start. But she ought to consider taking the Basic Pistol course or similar instruction if she's not had previous shooting experience.

Hopefully I'm not speaking too soon, but today I discussed developing some classes for "ladies only" with Glock Girl (Andrea) who holds the same certifications as I do. Also last night, a good friend of ours and shooting buddy who recently obtained her instructor certification was talking with me about partnering up on some training because she's eager to start training. I know she'd be an very good instructor as she is an outstanding combat shooter and also an advanced Krav Maga practitioner. So it's very possible that we'll develop some collaborative courses that may include the standard NRA courses, plus our own curriculum, open to everyone, or in some cases, women-only courses.

Cool, thanks! I was just wondering because you said it wasn't NRA certified. So, you are, just not this particular course.

Right. When teaching an NRA course one has to strictly adhere to the material developed by the NRA. Since the NRA hasn't developed a WI concealed carry course, nor any particular state's course, I'm required to make sure everyone understands this is not an NRA course. The NRA doesn't mind that certified instructors provide instruction beyond or outside NRA designed courses, but they want to make sure that it's clear when it is an NRA course or not. The NRA is not responsible for the content of courses it did not develop.

i always wonder about people that make a post to say they sent an email to someone.

I mailed a check to my phone company today!

are you warning the rest of us to not send an email too?
are you goading all of us to send an email, just like you did?
are you using this forum to warn the recipient to check his email box?

i should call my phone company to warn them to check their mail box to see if my check has arrived!

Answer: All of the above.

In all reality, it's a valid question (somewhat). I emailed the info requested earlier on in the day. A few hours went by and I hadn't received a response (and still haven't but I understand he's a busy guy) So, I simply thought should let Auric know (through as many channels as possible) that I am interested.

I hope that answers all your questions appropropraitly. You know what they say, "there are no stupid questions...."

added on edit: Your still "mailing" checks? I send my payments electronically and then send an email a notification to them adevising them that payment has been sent. Is that a "landline" your paying for?

Don't expect immediate replies unless you have a question on the course. I'm hoping to have the first courses scheduled starting next week sometime, then you'll be contacted with details to see if the date/time/place works for you or whether you want to defer to another time.

Thanks!

Shotgun...

I belong to a Sportsmans Club in the Paddock Lake area. There is a pistol range available as well as use of the club house for the class...

Let me knoe if you are interested in doing a class in the Paddock Lake WI (S.E. WI.) area and I can arrange for use of the club...

I would also be very interested in getting on the list for your offer of a discounted (or free) class in your area... I will check for my WCI membership number and let you know...

I'm also available. I'm in the Milwaukee area, but am willing to travel unless there are enough members in the SE WI side to justify a class in the area. I'm sure my club would also be willing to offer up the use of it's ranges.

Thanks to both of you for the offers. If there is sufficient interest I'm willing to travel anywhere.

yes checks and auto bank pays and manual electronic transfers too.
i open carried scruffing around on my a55 and knees on my cement front yard,
i used a sawzall to remove the rusted off, but end, of my old, broke off in the wind storm, flag pole.
i sweated on my gun and scrapped it up some, i think she liked it.

i hope lots of forum posters will read this and think about all of the other readers
that click on a new post and are disappointed that the poster
didnt bother to add something interesting to read about
more than,,,
I sent an email!

one of my banks gives 5.9%, but only on 1000$ if i have an auto bank transfer, so thats the cable/internet.
the other bank gives 2.2% on my other money if i use my debit card 12 times am month.
i have a land line cause the cells dont work too good down here.
i know why people say "dial a number" on the phone.
i watched sputnic orbit above my house.

ive read your posts lots of times, im sure we would be good friends in real life, but sometimes, i just have to "poke the bear".

p.s. do you really send an email to a company telling them to check to see if they got your electronic transfer payment?
thats funny right there!!!!!
