If memory serves me right, you keep your old one until the new one arrives. Laws read that you MUST have your CPL on your person if concealling a pistol on you or in your vehicle. You couldn't do this if they took your old one and you had to wait for the new one to arrive.

When I renewed mine, the new one was issued on the spot.
Otherwise I would suspect that you would keep your current one as it is not expired.

That's where I renew mine… is an option for applying or renewing your CPL, depending on where do you live and, if you are a Washington state resident...check the link below...

"To apply through LESA you must have your primary residence within Pierce County. The only exception to this rule is for those individuals who live outside of Washington state. "

also, Kent police said to keep your renewal receipt on you as that will keep you legal even if you go past the expiration date on your current CPL before the new one shows up...

Reading the current 9.41.070 it looks like it has been changed/updated several times since this AG Opinion was issued.

Quiter possibly, the language requiring residency was added after.

I will be applying for a CPL soon. My problem is, I live in Bellingham, Whatcom co. I know I should not expect difficulty before doing this, but, I live in bellingham. Would I have less animosity from the Whatcom Co LEOs for requesting a CPL?

But do you have one of the "really old ones" that were merely typed out on an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper? My first was just that, issued in 1964 by King County Sheriff's Dept.

if you live within the city limits, you have to apply to Bellingham PD. you don't get to pick.

HK Dave, that is incorrect. If he resides in a municipality, he may apply to either the Municipality PD or to the County. His choice.

Example: I live in Kenmore, but I always apply and renew at KCSO, even tho Kenmore has its own PD.

(13) A person may apply for a concealed pistol license:

(a) To the municipality or to the county in which the applicant resides if the applicant resides in a municipality;

(b) To the county in which the applicant resides if the applicant resides in an unincorporated area; or

(c) Anywhere in the state if the applicant is a nonresident.

No, if you live in the city you can go to either the city OR the county. If you live in the county you can only go to the county

Tried that here in Yakima, went to Sheriffs Office to renew but was directed to the City PD as I live in the City.

Were you turned away by a secretary/clerk or the sheriff?

My brother applied at SCSO when he lived within Mill Creek city limits.
