Apparently, writing blitheringly idiotic articles lumping all firearms into the "bad" category has now become a pastime for the finance sections.

In fact, Sue Chang denigrates all Americans with her mindbogglingly stupid:

"There are, of course, arguments from staunch gun-rights supporters that an armed citizenry is a safer citizenry. Nothing stops a bad guy with a gun like a good guy with a gun, is a popular National Rifle Association talking point."

Forget the fact that roughly 104 million gun owners out-number the NRA more than 30 to 1.

Then she adds, "only 1,478 cases, or 3.1% of the total, involved the defensive use of weapons."

So, while you're at it, quote groundless numbers apparently plucked from thin air.

In reality, between 650,000 and 800,000 times each year an armed citizens uses a firearm to defend against violent crime, most of the time without firing a shot. Some estimates place that much higher, around 1.4 million. How is that a bad thing? Looks like roughly 1 in 15 such incidents result in shot(s) fired. Again, how is defending one's life, limb, and/or property against crime a bad thing?

It's not, unless you'd rather those who perpetrate violent crime be the victors.

And yes, there are the times when a bad guy starts something with a gun.

However, your use of the phrase, "how often Americans turn to guns to express discontent, hate and prejudice against their compatriots" is just absurd. Aside from a few select areas in Chicago, Baltimore, New Orleans, Detroit, and St. Louis, where gangs fire on gangs, the overwhelming and vast majority of "gun incidents" are law-abiding citizens stopping violent crime.

So, if you would, Sue Chang, please stop regurgitating the propaganda, grow a brain, and start doing proper research for your stories.

I see Sue Chang has a We'd Like to Hear From You button at the bottom of her article.

Let's oblige her with a dose of reality:
